The Bevo Mill was built by August Busch Sr. in 1917. It is located halfway between his home, which is located at what is now Grant's Farm, and the Anheuser-Busch Brewery and was used as Busch's personal dining room and a restaurant to entertain his guests. Prohibition closed down the restaurant because it was a retail beer outlet. It was opened later and used only for special private parties until 2006, then it opened as a German-inspired restaurant. Problems again closed down this South City icon. But in the fall of 2009, after major renovations, the Historic Bevo Mill opened again! Today it is called Das Bevo and features three event spaces: the Historic Bierhall, the outdoor Biergarten, and the famous Prohibition speakeasy, The Das Bevo Underground. This makes it is a perfect venue for special events such as birthday parties, concerts, rehearsal dinners, wedding receptions, cocktail parties, corporate parties and more.
